On May 8th, seventeen participants from the Transformational Food Manufacturing Workshop toured the NUANCE Center facilities. The workshop was organized through Northwestern’s Initiative for Manufacturing Science and Innovation (NIMSI) and hosted by Professor Tim Wei from the University of Nebraska.
In cooperation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a consortium of industry and university partners host this workshop every year to collaborate on ways to enhance food safety and security worldwide. This particular workshop focused on “food as an advanced manufacturing industry,” with an overarching goal of laying the groundwork for a national public-private partnership that will revolutionize food processing and manufacturing in the United States, increase American manufacturing competitiveness (not just in food, but in the supporting industries comprising the entire supply chain), and grow the US manufacturing workforce into the 22nd century.
