The Committee on Extraterrestrial Sample Analysis Facilities, of which SHyNE and NUANCE’s Center Director, Professor Vinayak P. Dravid is a committee member, released a new report on the future needs of extraterrestrial sample analysis facilities. The report “Strategic Investments in Instrumentation and Facilities for Extraterrestrial Sample Curation and Analysis” is a Consensus Study Report of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering, and Medicine, Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences, Space Studies Board. The report states that NASA’s current investment and infrastructure in instruments and facilities to analyze extraterrestrial samples is insufficient to meet the needs for the future influx of extraterrestrial samples.
